The Stone Church

Our Savior's Lutheran Church is listed on the National Registry of Historical Buildings (since 2001).

In 1920, two local, small, churches joined to form Our Savior's. The basement of this current structure was built and used as a gathering place for members until 1948 when the upper, stone building was erected. It is made from stones that had been gathered in local fields and split by hand. The main doors face east to welcome the morning sun and the beautiful setting in the James River Valley is serene and peaceful. Atop the main (east) window are pink stones in the form of a cross. These stones were brought from Norway by early settlers and congregation members.
